'Grifters' show @ lazarides

Great exhibition. I really like stuff like this, its really clever and interesting, and always some really good skill on offer too. im delighted such a thing exists, recognising great work. complete difference to what i saw and wrote about with the saatchi gallery.
the fact such a place exists ,and recognising the future of this kind of art. i feel its wrong to call it street art and i feel uncomfortable saying that.
this gallery always just makes me want to paint paint paint n jus get completely mad creative, and also it feels as if achievable, that with enough drive and passion we could all put our work here.

its situated just off oxford street, easy to find. id also check out the stolen space gallery on brick lane they have a brand new massive exhibiton with artists like d'face showing[infact looks like they have bloody loads as of yesterday] hoping to check this out very soon

Faile @ Lazarides

I really like Faile. ive seen it up all over the place. i think its a collective of 3 odd people. id strongly suggest looking at an artist 'aiko' also. interesting collage use, and pushing them forwards. this is why i like this work. using different surface and medium, screenprinted wheat pasted ripped up allsorts and just looks damn visual and damn interesting.
just get loads of ideas from this kind of stuff

Mode 2 @ Lazarides

Mode 2; this is has been one of my favourite artists over time. i completely look up to his style of drawing and art. its incredibly skilled and just damn cool. his art has inspired me for years and i was genuinely delighted to find some of his recent work at Lazarides

what i particuly like about seeing his work up close, infact any artist is getting right up to it and seeing the quality of the stroke of brush/pencil/medium. its speed and get a better idea and well more ideas of approaching my own work

his new stuff was done on cardboard, as with alot of other work there and this is something im well up for playing about with. at a later stage ill upload some work i found from previous exhibition where artists have painted on found material such as old wood, rusty metal etc and i think this is a fantastic idea to work with.really contributes to the imagery.

-worth noting i personnaly prefer his older work.and is worth checking out

uni stuff

a few of the things i liked from the show round college at the moment.

i was really taken by the dr jekyll+mr hyde book on the table near the canteen. i really liked the layouts and i loved the way it had different papers some transparent so the layouts matched the next pages and you could see thru, even forming images.and the way images where used in agranyish black and white. and just adding extra odd mad stuff, who says a book has to be pages, and then this person throws in a couple envelopes and the like as pages. good stuff.

i think this some of the MA work. to be honest its great but i expected a little more. more in terms of fantastic and new ideas, i htought it was all great dont get me wrong and ive alot of work to do to meet their standards. its just for MA level i expected to see completely off the wall bizarre ideas.

talking of off the wall ideas-chat to some of the people doing product design.just about anything they do is just a bit beyond words.

keep an eye out for a giant flourecent pink flying arrow tommorw [the kind of arrow that points at things; not shot from a bow]

found

found this just outside college on a bus stop. ive uploaded this because i think its interesting looking at peoples different doodles and hows theyve drawn the little stick figures. look at the one with the long standy up hair, that facial expression seems quite bizarre.
and the obligatry swearword

just like litle things like this

wicked screenprints!

just found these brilliant screenprints earlier today

love it!!!what a good idea painting the background first before printing on top, giving each reproduced print its own personality and uniqueness. also deliberate strokes of brush being shown. love this!

check their website: www.littleartbook.com
i really like some of their art, and its little heard of.

also..
about screenprinting, i learnt a brilliant little fact today. speaking to karl foster he was telling me that if you screenprint using oil based inks you can achieve far greater detail. he recommended flooding the screen twice.
its now illegal to do this [in the college] as the chemical you need to clean it off the screen is highly toxic.
bollocks.
worth knowing tho
