Mapping london in Type

this workshop saw us looking at the maps of london and creating our own one using only type. 

Firstly i got the digital version of the map i was to use and worked on top of it, 

i then went to google maps to find out the names of the smaller roads

once i had made a handful of roads in type, i made a concious decision to differentiate the larger main roads to the smaller ones and the side streets by using different weights of the font and also different point size.

 i picked 4 different weights and sizes and stuck to it

what i did keep variable was the kerning of the text to fill up the size of the road. i didnt want to strech the type.

once complete i looked at other colours but decided on red as alot of other students chose this as well and kept something similar

i did enjoy this workshop. i enjoyed practicing digital skills and reminding me how to use them. I dont think i will be taking this further, not like this. i didnt get as excited as i did in some other workshops as thers still alot i want to experiment with

but we'll see what happens, i might get another idea triggered by another workhop.
