OKIDO - research

OKIDO project! for this project we have been asked to create a page for the OKIDO childrens magazine, and to pick from a range of  different subjects to communicate and teach to 2-7 year old children.
I chose to work on the human digestive system.
as i was working i was still deciding on wether or not to make a kind of short story or a small game, to make the information fun and interesting.

to do this me and a freindly fellow student went and looked at the V+A and the natural history museum, these museums have alot of activities for kids to engage with and learn about different subjects such as history, culture, dinosaors, natural process such as the human body too.
unfortinately we timed it wrong, by the time we arrived at the natural history museum it was closing but the shop was useful looking at toys and books aimed at our target audience and the way they deal with the information relevant to me subject. same for the science museum that was utterly closed.

as you see we also visited the OKIDO shop! it was really nice and fun in there, i liked the way they actually had kids in there to take part in activities and games, such as colouring in and making fun gloves and hanging things and a giant ship!

i liked looking at all the different books and illustration styles.

and interesting i really liked the packaging. i saw how it could be made myself, was simple but well done i felt and i really liked the hand made, and not mass produced feel of it. it was unique and special.

i also spent alot of time in different bookshops, some chain stores, some individual ones, to look at their collection of childrens books, get an idea of how their told, hwo thyre made, and particuly their illustration style.

i personally really like hand made, and i like rachel ortas's approach to her image making and id liek to do something along those lines but my take on it and my style of drawing.

i also spoke to my auntie+uncle and small cousin conrad who is 2, and look at which books he likes and cartoon characters etc.
it was interesting to learn it was not so much the style of the book bu the interactivity of books conrad found most interesting, such as things you can move, or touch etc

interaction. thats now my buzzword for the project and made me decide onto its a game id like to involve with my project.

i did a small book story which i really like, and ill upload my finals for this and my working process when completed.
